The invention relates to a fluorescent probe for detecting glutathione (GSH), in particular to a compound for detecting the glutathione based on novel cyanine fluorophore and application thereof. Thecompound is an organic compound based on the novel cyanine fluorophore, and the structural formula is shown in the general formula I. The fluorescent probe can be used for the GSH in the selective detection environment, cells and living bodies, the fluorescence intensity is obviously increased in the presence of the GSH, the organic compound can be used for detection of the GSH, interference of external detection conditions can be greatly reduced, and the detection speed and accuracy are increased. The organic compound can serve as the fluorescent probe for detection of the GSH level in the environment and the cells. The probe can be used for deeply researching the dynamics mechanism of the GSH in processes such as generation, conveying and accumulation in the environment and the living bodies, can also assist in illuminating a biosynthetic pathway of the glutathione, and can initiate a new mechanism of glutathione dynamic balance.
